St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson has described the recovering Kenyan forward Jonah Ayunga as a beautiful being.

Ayunga has been out of action since February, when he suffered an ACL injury that also kept him out of some action last season. To Robinson, the 26-year-old looks like a new signing, and the club looks forward to having him back soon.

“You see him [Ayunga] running around now, with his physique and the size of him. He’s a beautiful-looking human being! He just excites me when I see him. As a player, we’ll be delighted to have him back.

“He’ll be like a brand new signing for us,” Robinson said, as quoted by Daily Record.

Robinson, however, could not give a definite timeframe for when he expects Ayunga to be ready for action.

“It’s difficult to put a timeline on it. When you’re coming back from these injuries, you pick up little niggles and things along the way.

“We’re still looking at a minimum of six to eight weeks. He looks great, and he’s doing well, but I don’t want to put any extra pressure on him,” Robinson continued.

New contract for Ayunga

The coach also wants to tie down the former Brighton and Morecambe striker to a new contract.

“He’s someone we’ll tie down on a contract with as well in the coming weeks because we see the value of looking after people when they’ve had a hard time.

“But we know the value he’ll bring to the squad when he’s fully fit again too,” he concluded.

Ayunga joined St Mirren from English Football League Two outfit Morecambe FC, where he and Robinson had worked together before.

Ayunga has yet to play for Harambee Stars, although he was given a call in 2018 but could not feature. The forward’s eligibility to play for Kenya comes from his father’s roots.
