Good morning. This is what you need to know in order to get up to speed with the day’s happenings.

Music Festival State Concert

The 95th Kenya Music Festival 2023 State Concert is set to take place today at State House in Nakuru, where the National Music Festival winners will have the honour of performing for President William Ruto.

This event follows President Ruto’s recent attendance at the Maasai Cultural Festival at Sekenanie Gate, Narok County. All eyes are now on Nakuru State House as the President hosts his second State Concert since assuming office.

Previously, he hosted the Kenya National Drama Festival State Concert in June 2023, featuring winning performances from various regions across the country.

Ababu Namwamba in Parliament

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba is scheduled to appear before the National Assembly on Wednesday.

He will address allegations of alleged failed leadership within the ministry. Some of the key issues he is expected to explain include the role of his ministry in facilitating the Kenyan team that represented the country in Berlin, Germany, in June.

Additionally, he will provide reasons for his absence at the airport when the Kenyan team returned from Berlin. Namwamba will also discuss the management of aquatic sports in the country.

His appearance before the National Assembly follows summons in response to allegations made against his ministry by Kikuyu MP Hon. Kimani Ichungwah and Nandi Senator Hon. Simon Cherargai.

Forum on Ending Child Marriage

The Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Civil Society Organization Forum on Ending Child Marriage is set to continue its second day at a Nairobi hotel.

This event aims to address the pressing issue of child marriage, which is prevalent in the Eastern and Southern African region, where an estimated 31% of young women and children are married before the age of 18.

Among the key figures expected to address the event is Faiza Mohammed, the UNFPA ESARO Representative and Equality Now Regional African Director, who serves as the Chief Guest.

Africa Cup of Nations – Volleyball

The Kenya Women’s Volleyball team, known as the Malkia Strikers, is moments away from competing in the Africa Cup of Nations final but must-go past hosts Cameroon.

The Malkia Strikers have had an impressive journey in the competition, winning six matches to secure their spot in the semi-final.

Victory in this match would not only bring them closer to the Olympics but also secure their qualification for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship as the CAVB representatives, given the top three teams in the tournament qualify.

Athletics World Championship Day 5

Following Faith Kipyegon’s victory, more track and field events are set to continue on Wednesday.

Expectations are high as athletes compete in various events, including the 800m Women’s heats, 5000m Men’s heats, 3000m Women’s steeplechase heats, and 1500m Men’s race. Several Kenyan athletes will be vying for medals in these competitions.
