The political dispute between Kisii Governor James Ongwae and his deputy Joash Maangi has escalated as the county withdrew official vehicles assigned to the latter at the weekend.

The two cars were taken from his official residence in Kisii town on Friday at 4am.

The move is seen as informed by Maangi’s move to opposed the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting held in the county on Friday, terming it a waste of public funds.  

Maangi, an ally of Deputy President William Ruto, now claims his life is in danger following the withdrawal of  the vehicles and has asked police to beef up his security.

 “I have reasonable believe that my life is in danger,” he wrote on his Facebook account, adding that he  had reported the matter at Kisii police station.

Speaking to People Daily yesterday, Maangi claimed Ongwae was frustrating him because of his support for Ruto.

Contacted, the governor’s communication director Isaac Ongiri denied that Maangi’s vehicles had been withdrawn.
