Kindiki warns locals in bandit prone areas against returning to their homes
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has cautioned residents in areas declared as disturbed in six banditry prone counties in the North Rift against returning to their homes noting that the government is yet to conclude the security operation rolled out early this year.
The government rolled out a massive security operation coordinated by police and assisted by the military early this year in the porous region following the killing of more than 100 civilians and 24 police officers in six months alone.
The government has termed six banditry-prone counties in the region among them Turkana, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, Laikipia and Samburu as ‘disturbed’ and ‘dangerous’.
Kindiki who concluded his tour of Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet counties yesterday declared war on bandits wreaking havoc in the region.
“We will rest at nothing as the Kenya Kwanza government until all criminals terrorising innocent civilians wherever they are in the country are brought to book. Anybody found in areas gazetted as dangerous will be treated as a dangerous criminal and will be forcefully removed,” said Kindiki who inspected the ongoing construction of Tangul-Kamologon Forest Road in Elgeyo Marakwet.
He cited areas which are still under active operation as Arabal, Korkoron hills, Tandare valley and Ng’elecha hills in Baringo and urged residents to keep off.
