Wazito FC, Migori Youth clash in league promotion decider
Fireworks and high anticipation are expected ahead of the do-or-die Football Kenya Federation-Premier League promotion or relegation playoffs pitting Wazito FC and Migori Youth FC at the former’s Muhoroni Stadium, tomorrow afternoon.
Known as one of the most hostile and at times volatile grounds in the Country, the stakes will be high in the second leg match with a winner straight assured of heading to the Premiership for the 2023/24 campaign.
In the first leg last weekend at Migori Stadium that ended goalless, the hosts missed important chances to bury the game and now have to come up with a way to cause an upset away from their comfort zone.
Muhoroni Stadium deep in the heart of the sugar plantations is a difficult hunting ground for most clubs with the likes of Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards and Tusker FC having dropped points in the just concluded season. Wazito (pictured), who finished 16th place, had a difficult campaign having collected only 29 points with a mere seven wins in the entire campaign.
As such, Kevin Oluoch’s border-based team has an uphill task in what will equally be the most important game for them in years.
Backed by the County Government of Migori plus the local leaders including Mark Nyamita (MP-Uriri) and Peter Masara (MP-Suna West), the team arrived in good spirits three days ago at the sleepy sugar zone hoping to quickly get a feeling of the turf ahead of the big day.
The hosts are known to have a very fanatical support base that could play to their advantage. However, complaints have also flown about the intimidation tactics of the same facility that is under Muhoroni Sugar Company Management. The visitors will be aware that for most of the part, the decisive game will all be mental and have little to do with tactics.
Both teams have only met once in recent times in a duel that ended in a goalless draw. All systems are a go with the attack vs defence formations also likely to shape up the battles on each side.
The hosts have experienced Collins Neto expected to lead the attack-line and also Erick Juma, for good measure. As for the away side, Lucky Musyoki and Kevin Haggai will be instrumental in fetching goals.
