Kandara MP Alice Wahome has vowed not to apologise over her remarks that President Uhuru Kenyatta is the cause of shrinking democratic space and economic hardships in the country.

Speaking during a fundraising in Malindi on Sunday, Wahome dismissed those accusing her of disrespecting the President as sycophants telling them “to stop wasting their energy and time”, instead focus on their duties.

And yesterday, while reiterating her stand during a morning show on a local TV station, the MP said  she is not ready to engage anyone on the matter and her critics  should first internalise the message before commenting on it. 

“I am a leader who was elected by the people and I am speaking on their behalf to raise the issues which are hurting them because things are not well on the ground,” she added. 

Meanwhile, chaos broke out at a Murang’a hotel yesterday morning after a confrontation  ensued between supporters and critics of Wahome who clashed over her remarks.

Chaos erupted when supporters of Wahome were giving their views in support of the remarks the legislator expressed last week about the state of the country’s economy. A rival group believed to be sponsored by  some legislators stormed the press conference disrupting the event.
