Defending Football Kenya Federation-Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC are said to be nearing the conclusion of two top midfielders with the local transfer market gaining momentum.

Top of the list -and near the close of the deal for K’Ogalo – is the influential 25-year-old defensive midfielder Kevin Juma from Nzoia Sugar FC.

Juma, the deep-lying midfielder who has an eye for goal and exceptional passing ability, was subject to a chase by bigwigs in the top tier but the lure of Champions League has reportedly lured him to the 20-times Champions for four years.

He was one of the standout performers in the just-ended campaign whereby he helped the sugar-men finish a season-high, fourth in the log with 63 points.

Gor Mahia is also said to be edging ever closer to bringing speedy winger Cliff Nyakeya from AFC Leopards FC.

The exciting duo will be crucial for K’Ogalo’s Northern Irish tactician Jonathan McKinstry as he plans ahead for the CAF Champions League and also title defence on the domestic front.

Nyakeya, 27, has personal relations of the past with giants Gor Mahia; having featured for the youth side as a young player straight from school.

K’Ogalo has also roped in right full-back Alvin Ochieng formerly of FC Talanta and Kisumu All-Stars FC to add depth in the back.

Meanwhile, 13-times Champions – Tusker FC – are said to be eying the return of their versatile midfielder Faraj Ominde who (two seasons ago) had decamped from the Brewers.

The player who can play both as offensive 8 or central 6, had his share of success at Bandari FC but is said to be surplus to requirements.

Also, in the eyes of Tusker FC who last won the title in the 2021/22 season, is KCB FC and Harambee Stars highly-rated goalkeeper Bryne Omondi.

The player is said to have met the Brewers’ management to broker a deal though nothing conclusive has come out yet.

Also being targeted by the Ruaraka-based side is Nzoia Sugar’s sensational attacking midfielder Joseph Mwangi who ended the last campaign with 14 goals.

The 2022/23 current National Super League top-scorer Beja Nyamawi of coastal side SS Assad FC is also rumoured to be nearing a transfer to neighbours and Premiership side Bandari FC.

At the time of going to Press, Beja was on an impressive 19 goals and has been a hot property being eyed by a couple of clubs.

Bandari, who is in the process of rebuilding a new technical bench after axing virtually all of them following another unsatisfactory season, will be hopeful the signature of the sensational attacker will bring in good tidings for the Dockers.
