Nyahururu residents living in fear over daring lone robber
Residents of Nyahururu Town in Laikipia County have expressed fears of burglary attack by an armed robber, who has been terrorising the locals for the last two weeks.
According to the residents, the robber, always armed with a pistol, has been breaking into business premises in the evening hours robbing their operators of huge sums of money at gunpoint.
A businesswoman in the town, Mary Waceke noted that they were now fearing for their lives, saying the situation was now forcing some of them to close their business earlier than before.
“We are calling upon the security heads in the county to speed up and arrest this gunman as he has broken into several shops here,” said Waceke.
“Businesses are not propelling well as we are being forced to close up early for we don’t know where the robber is aiming next,” she said.
Early this week, the gunman stormed Double G Wholesale Shop in the town at around 10pm as the owner was closing it where the owner alerted the police after locking him (gunman) inside the premise.
On arrival, an exchange of fire ensued where the gunman shot at the police several times before he managed to escape.
On Thursday, the gunman managed to rob a trader of some money at Westgate area within the town when he was closing his business.
Nyahururu Sub-County Police Commander (SPC) Geoffrey Mayek said they had launched a manhunt for the culprit noting that a lone gunman was carrying out the robbery.
“We are following close leads and I am sure, we will make some arrests. This is a lone gunman and he has been captured by the cameras,” said Mayek.
The police boss called on residents to help the police with information that will lead to the arrest of the culprit.
“In case you notice anything happening around where you are, give us information in confidence and we will deal with the situation according to the law,” said Mayek. – KNA
