Last year’s Men’s Volleyball League Runners-Up Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) had a stellar weekend collecting three wins in the process as the KVF-National Championship got underway at the Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium.

KPA under Coach Sammy Mulinge went about business in style without dropping a single set to underscore their mettle as heavy-hitters in the business. Coming off a nearly successful foray in the recent Africa Club Championships where they finished fifth overall, the Dockers have sent out a strong message that they would be hunting for the title that has been elusive for the past six years. In their opening game Friday, KPA crushed Administration Police 3-0 (26-24/25-20/25-17).

It was not smooth sailing as they would have expected with the AP side pushing all to the end especially in the opening two sets. In the first set,it had to take two super points to be the decider after regulation ended in a 24-24 score. Mulinge had to make some personnel changes and tactical switches to have a hold of the game without pressure.

The Dockers Saturday once again came alive with another win of 3-0 (25-22/25-22/25-12) against Kenya Forestry Service albeit in another epic game. KFS also proved a hard nut to crack particularly in the opening two sets as they forced a lot of mistakes from KPA particularly on the serve and block department.

Regardless, KPA did well to hold on and were in good shape to silence the marauding Foresters. The big serves improved in the final set to give the Dockers breathing space.
