The third edition of the Elisha Kasuku Golf Cup slated for this Saturday has attracted at least 270 amateur players.

It will be held at the Muthaiga Golf Club. The two previous legs tool place at Royal Nairobi Golf Club. Title Sponsor ABSA has donated Sh 500,000 with African Data Centre providing Sh 300,000 and Riley Falcon Security Company who gave Sh 100,000.

Speaking during a cheque presentation yesterday at the Muthaiga Golf Club Wednesday, Organizer and Kenyan golfing legend Elisha Kasuku told of his aspirations to give back to the community as a person who had played actively for the past 64 years.

“This idea was built and inspired bay a couple of friends and I took it up to help advance the sport in the community. We launched it twice a go to cater especially for Amateurs and it has grown well. My main intention is to support caddies from the less fortunate areas and also work with Junior Golf Foundation.

This one day event will also be a precursor to the inauguration of the Elisha Kasuku Foundation,” said the 75 year old former Cross Country Athlete and retired Marine Satellite Engineer.

ABSA Bank Head of Securities Paul Nyaga t expressed his desire to continue supporting sports personalities who inspire change.

“We are excited to be sponsoring the third edition of Kasuku Cup Golf Tournament. At Absa, we remain committed to seeking out strategic partnerships that drive sustainable growth within the communities we serve. We commend the work that Sanlam is doing and we are proud to be associated with this prestigious event.”

Riley Falcon Security Marketing Manager Fred Odhiambo underscored the value of building brands to create impact. “We are obviously pleased to be part of this initiative and it is because we are working with a well-known brand.

Kasuku has commitment in whatever he touches and what he has done in golf and athletics is almost unmatched. Together I am sure we can take his project to new heights.”

Dan Kwach of Africa Data Centre on his part stated; “We are thrilled to be a part of this exciting event that gives a much-needed break from work, allows us time off with our customers and most importantly celebrates home-grown talent and excellence in sports,”he said.

“As a company, we are committed to supporting initiatives that promote sports and wellness, and we believe that the Kasuku Cup Golf Tournament is an excellent platform for this.”

Kasuku, 75, has been a sportsman for almost six decades and stream his career in Nakuru as an Athlete before switching to Golf as a Caddie at the Nakuru Golf Club.He has also been a Professional Golfer in Kenya for the past 39 years after turning Pro in 1984.The Retired Earth Engineer was also privileged enough to be the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Chairman for 21 years.

He participated in the British Open (Royal Open-Aberdeen,Scotland)  in 2005.Earlier in 1978,he was recognized by the Late Queen Elizabeth for his exemplary service to Golf.

On the Athletic front,he is the reigning African Holder on the 50km,20km and 10 km Cross Country Walk racing.He finished second in the 1976 Montreal Olympics and second in the World Race Walking in Bergen, Norway in 1978.
