The Anti-Corruption Court has fined a former National Coordinator of Bunge la Mwananchi Rodgers Mwololo Ksh250,000 or in default served two years in prison on bribery charges.

Mwololo was convicted by Milimani Chief Magistrate Felix Kombo after being found guilty of two charges of demanding a bribe of Ksh250,000 so as not to expose to the media allegations of sexual harassment of patients at St. Mary’s Clinic situated in Umoja Estate, within Nairobi County by its staff members.

While sentencing Mwololo, the magistrate said that the punishment should serve as a deterrent to others contemplating committing the same offence.

The magistrate ordered the accused person to pay a cumulative fine of Ksh250,000 or in default two years in jail for the two offences of receiving a bribe from the complainant Lucas Munata Sameta the owner of the Umoja clinic.

Mwololo in his mitigation urged the court to impose a lenient sentence saying he was remorseful and will not repeat the same offence in the future.

Mwololo’s case proved by DPP

The magistrate found that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had proved beyond reasonable doubt that Mwololo had solicited a benefit of Ksh150,000 and subsequently received Ksh100,000 from Lucas Munata Sameta, with the intent that, in consequence, he would not contact media houses on sexual harassment complaints he had purportedly received.

He is said to have committed the offences on December 3, 2018, at Grand Quality Hotel in Nairobi City County.

His arrest and prosecution came after Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission undertook investigations following a complaint lodged at the commission that Mwololo had approached Munata with claims that he had information regarding sexual harassment of patients visiting the complainant’s clinic.

He threatened to expose the clinic to the media if the demanded bribe was not given.

EACC officers arrested Mwololo at the city hotel while receiving Ksh100,000 as part of the demanded bribe from the complainant.
