Shabana overpowers Vihiga United, grabs seven-point log lead
Shabana’s recent stutter seems to have been a closed chapter with yet another convincing win on the road yesterday when they thrashed strugglers Vihiga United 6-0 at their Mumias Sports Complex backyard during a National Super League game.
The huge win gives ‘Tore Bobe’ a seven point cushion at the top of the league standings with 45 points in the bag off 20 matches played. This was their 14th win of the campaign and currently stand at a goal difference of +25.
Wycliffe Mutua and Vincent Nyabuto both had braces in the game as Shabana ran riot. Two goals in the first half from Peter Ogechi in the 20th minute and Wycliffe Mutua in the 43rd minute just went to show the direction the game was taking. Vihiga who are in danger of relegation simply had no answers as their former Coach Sammy Okoth orchestrated a proper smacking of the home team in front of their own crowd.
In the second half, Shabana switched up the gears and literally invaded the opponents box with every opportunity knocking. Four goals were netted in a span of 36 minutes with Mutua once again in the scoresheet courtesy of a 56th minute strike before two goals by Vincent Nyabuto followed through. The huge loss puts more pressure on the Vihiga side who are now on 15th place with a paltry 12 points.
Meanwhile Kibera Black Stars woes persisted after losing 1-0 Sunday to Mara Sugar FC in a match played at the Awendo Green in Migori. The visitors who felt unfairly treated had a player dismissed early in the second half thus occasioning an abandonment.
Mara had scored their lone goal in the 49th minute via Mohamed Barasa. Good interplay from the middle opened up the opponents’ spaces with Barasa waiting in the wings to bury home the goal after a frustrating first half against the slum boys.
However, four minutes later things went badly as the Black Stars protested bitterly following the sending off of their Captain Christian Kitamba in the 52nd minute for dissent.
After a push and pull with the match officials and technical bench, the Black Stars team left the pitch in a huff and straight to their changing rooms.
