Azimio leaders have called for the arrest of the cop who opened fire at protesting Kenyans in Kisumu, killing a university student.

The leaders who attended the burial of Maseno University Student William Mayienga called out to the Government to ensure the perpetrators are charged as per the Constitution.

Mayienga, 21, was shot by anti-riot police who were countering demonstrators who were in an anti-government protest against high cost of living and alleged electoral injustices.

Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o and his Kisii counterpart Simba Arati led villagers in mourning Mayienga at his Tombe Village home in Kitutu Masaba where his remains were intered.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga in his condolence message that was delivered by Nyong’o called for justice for the slain English Literature Third Year student whom he termed as a peaceful Kenyan.

“Just like many Kenyans, we are angry and stunned by the killing of this innocent university student who would be in class now, studying for his exams,” Raila said.

Raila assured the family that the Azimio la Umoja coalition will follow up Mayienga’s case and ensure the killer cop is arrested and held responsible for the murder. Arati called for speedy investigations and arraignment of the police officer(s) involved.

Mourning their first born son, the parents of Mayienga said they were disturbed with his sudden demise.
