The government has said it is planning to disburse Inua Jamii money on monthly basis to cushion beneficiaries from the harsh economic times.

Labor and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore said the delays, which sometimes go up to six months, leave the beneficiaries vulnerable.

She said the State Department of Social Protection spends about Sh26 billion annually in the Inua Jamii cash transfer and is short of ShSh10 billion required to cover all people who need support.

“We are undergoing strained financing economic challenges but going forward, we have discussed it in Cabinet that they can get it at the right time,” said the CS.

“Sometimes, they go as far as 20 kilometers and we have been in discussion with banks and mobile providers to ensure the beneficiaries are able to get their money at their door steps,” she added.

The CS made the remarks yesterday when she toured the Kenya School of Government to assess the preparedness of the institution to host Kenya Social Protection Conference 2023, to be held this week. The CS said at least 500 delegates are expected d to attend the conference.
