First Lady Rachel Ruto together with a section of Meru leaders have rubbished gay marriage in Kenya terming it a danger to the county.

Speaking at Athii Catholic church in Igembe South today, Rachel said the country cannot condone the Supreme Court of Kenya (SCoK) ruling on gay rights and warned that the act will erode the morals of the young generation.

“We should not even try to talk about LGTBQ this a conversation we should not even have in our country because accepting it is like throwing our morals into the dustbin,” the first lady stated.

She further added the act is against the Christian and traditional values of the country saying it is sinful to allow such marriages in the country.

In support of the First lady, area MP John Paul Mwirigi said the parliament will overturn the supreme court ruling and focus on strengthening families to have a mother, father and children and not a marriage of same the gender.

On his part, Igembe South legislator also criticized the move calling on President William Ruto to block the legalization.

“I wonder if that act is allowed where I will find myself now that I am looking forward to getting married,” said the 29-year-old legislator amid laughter.

The debate has caused anxiety amongst Christian faithful and leaders across the country with the church leadership now warning that the whole discourse was not only immoral but contrary to biblical teachings.

Also accompanied by Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Agriculture cabinet secretary Mithika Linturi, MP John Mutunga (Tigania West) and his Igembe North counterpart Julius Thaitumu the leaders called on Kenyans to be patient with President Ruto’s government.

Linturi addressing the faithful assured the nation that the Kenya Kwanza government is geared towards transforming the nation economically and improving the living standards of Kenyans.

“I am urging Kenyans to be patient with our president and ignore some politicians from the opposition who want to fight him in a bid to block developments. I am assuring you that this is the government that will change the face of this nation,” Linturi said.
