Rugby fans in the country this weekend are expected to be treated to some good rugby with six Kenya Cup fixtures lined up across the country.

Third-place Menengai Oilers will be out to try and cause a disappointment to former Kenya Cup champions KCB RFC who will be making the trip to Nakuru ahead of the tie set to be staged at Nakuru’s Moi Showground.

Last season the Oilers were clinical in their play against the Bankers with the resilience paying off with a 24-17 win in a tantalizing semifinal fixture that would see the Curtis Olago-coached side relinquish their reign as champions in the local league.

Despite being assured of a playoff spot for both teams, however, a win for the Oilers will be a morale booster for the Gibson Weru-coached side having lost their last Kenya cup fixture 25-21 to varsity side Strathmore Leos.

On the other side, KCB is unbeaten this season and the well-polished side are men on a mission having registered eight successive bonus point wins.

A win for the Bankers and in Nakuru will be good enough to assure them of a top-two finish, which gives them the privilege of a home semifinal fixture.

In other fixtures defending champions Kabras Sugar host Strathmore Leos at the Kakamega Showground.

A bonus point wins for Kabras in the fixture against Leos will see them top the Kenya Cup standings if KCB lose or fail to garner a bonus point result.

Playoff position

The Sugarmen warmed up for this game with a 42-7 win away to Mwamba while Strathmore caused a 25-21 upset over the Nakuru-based Oilers.

Kenya Harlequins will be out to cement their playoff position with a win against varsity side Kenyatta’s University Blak Blad in a fixture set to be staged at the RFUEA grounds.

The Paul Murunga-coached side Harlequins edged Nakuru RFC 22-21 over the weekend as Blak Blad won the varsity derby with a 35-27 victory over Mean Machine.

Another varsity side Catholic Monks face Homeboyz RFC at the Ngong Racecourse grounds with both sides in need of a win having lost their match-day eight fixtures.

Monks lost 59-16 to KCB as Homeboyz were edged 21-10 by Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST). The Monks badly need the win to keep their hopes of survival alive while Homeboyz must find a response after last weekend’s shocker to Masinde Muliro.

MMUST on their part face Nakuru in Kakamega while the University of Nairobi Mean Machine hosts Mwamba RFC.

Machine find themselves in the relegation zone, and a win against Mwamba RFC will see them fancy their chances of survival in the top flight.
