Amenga to take part in CHAN’s technical study group in Algeria
Football Kenya Federation’s (FKF) Technical Director Michael Amenga is in Algeria to take part in the Africa Championships (CHAN) technical study group for the duration of the competition which kicks off on January 13 to February 4.
This is the first time a Kenyan football technical director has been invited to participate in the high-profile study group.
“I’m happy for this opportunity and it’s a big thing for Kenya and it shows that CAF recognises what Kenya has done and is currently doing in coaches training and capacity building in general,” Amenga told People Sport as he left for Algiers yesterday morning.
He added: “I will have a chance to network with other technical directors from other nations and know their football culture. This will also help in researching the characteristics of African players.”
Technical reports are published after each and every Fifa competition in order to analyse how the game is progressing. The report compiled by the Technical Study Group (TSG) and drawn up by the technical development department of football’s world governing body, contains a match-by-match analysis, detailed statistics as well as an appraisal of each team’s performance.
For this CHAN, 12 persons made up of ex-players and current coaches constitute the CAF TSG. They are spread across the match venues – two per venue, with the support of an immediate past CAF Technical Director, Abdelmoneim Hussein ‘Shatta’ as a consultant.
CAF Director of Technical and Development, Raul Chipenda said TSG members are expected to put together a technical report for all the matches at the tournament.
“At the end, they will prepare the technical report of the competition that will be analysed at a conference later in the year with all Member Associations. They will also identify tactical trends, strengths and weaknesses which will be discussed thoroughly in the quest to improve the technical and tactical aspect of the game on the continent,” Chipenda told CAFOnline.com.
