Felista Nyamathira Njoroge, who was gifted Sh102 million by her Belgian billionaire boyfriend, risks losing the money to the government after she failed to show up at the Asset Recovery Agency (ARA) for identification, deepening the mystery of her identity and whereabouts.

Nyamathira had been ordered by the High Court to appear before ARA for processing by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations after another woman emerged claiming ownership of the funds and the bank accounts holding the money.

The DCI officers were expected to solve the mystery of the real millionaire student at the centre of Sh102 million alleged to have been laundered.

High Court judge Esther Maina had in September ordered the two women to appear at ARA offices since both claimed ownership of the bounty wired by billionaire Marc De Mesel, a Belgian YouTube crypto personality.  The tycoon also wired Sh257 million to three other women — Tabby Wambuku Kago (Sh108 million), Jane Wangui Kago (Sh49m) and Serah Wambui (Sh100m).

A report was expected to be filed in court by yesterday when the case was coming up for further directions, but a lawyer representing ARA said that no one showed up for the identification process.

Justice Maina  went ahead and dismissed two separate applications by the two women to lift the interim preservation orders and to bar the ARA from holding the funds.  It emerged that the millions were deposited in an account at Co-operative Bank in four transactions between August 4 and 6, 2021.

The mystery deepened further after lawyers gave conflicting reports on the whereabouts of the woman they were representing in court.

One team led by lawyer Walter Owaga said their client had left the country in July 2021 and was yet to return. The other team, led by lawyer Thomas Maosa, said their client was in Kenya and had never left.
