Abdulswamad Nassir sworn in as Mombasa governor
Former Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir has been sworn in as Mombasa County Governor
Nassir who won the seat on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket was sworn in as the second Mombasa governor taking over from Ali Hassan Joho.
He took his oath of office at the Mama Ngina Waterfront at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 15, 2022.
The exercise was presided over by Mombasa Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku, who oversaw the newly elected governor’s oath and appended his signature alongside his deputy Francis Thoya.
Nassir was declared a winner in the Mombasa mini-polls after he garnered 119,083 votes against his closet rival Hassan Omar Sarai who emerged second with 98,105 votes.
The swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by his predecessor Ali Hassan Joho.
Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition deputy presidential candidate Martha Karua graced the inauguration.
