Kigumo Member of Parliament Ruth Mwaniki has urged the Cabinet Secretary for Trade and Cooperatives Peter Munya to expedite the disbursement of Sh3 billion for the coffee revolving fund.

The MP said she does not understand why the money which was factored in the 2018/19 budget is yet to be released.

Speaking in Kigumo during the opening of new Amica Sacco branch, Mwaniki said the coffee sector need urgent measures to revive it and save thousands of farmers who still rely on it for a livelihood.

“The money was meant for the farmers and I don’t understand why up to now it has not been released,” she said.

The legislator, however, said this money should be channeled directly to the farmers using the accredited and existing coffee societies structures.
