A church harambee in Nyandarua almost turned chaotic when area Woman Rep Faith Gitau clashed with Nominated MP Maina Kamanda.

Trouble started when Kamanda criticised Gitau for being accompanied to the function by a rowdy group.

“This is a church and must be respected,” Kamanda said.

The MP then quickly concluded the donations session and led his group to storm out of Kiandege AIC church in Ndaragwa sub-county.

Earlier, Kamanda had denied rumours that he is eyeing a seat in the county.

“I don’t want any seat here not even that of MCA,” he said.

The church pastor Samuel Gachango later apologised for the incident.

Second time

This is the second time the nominated MP has faced a hostile colleague in public functions. Last month, Laikipia Woman Rep Catherine Waruguru stormed a church in Nanyuki, Laikipia county where Kamanda was chief guest at a fundraising.

Before Gitau’s arrival, Kamanda and other leaders told Nyandarua County government to stop blaming national government for poor producer prices.

Kamanda, Cherang’any MP Joshua Kutuny and chairman of the Kenya Investment Authority Denis Waweru said there was a tendency by County leadership to blame President Uhuru Kenyatta for the poor producer prices for milk and potatoes, yet this was a sector whose functions had been devolved.

Waweru said whereas Nyandarua dairy farmers are selling their milk at Sh17 per litre, those in Murang’a are getting Sh30 for a litre of milk.

“This shows something is wrong with leadership in Nyandarua compared to Murang’a where Governor Mwangi Wa Iria has invested in milk processing,” said Waweru.
