The move by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to postpone the nomination exercise for the Laikipia Woman Rep race that was set for today has elicited mixed reactions.

UDA ordered a repeat of the exercise after an aspirant, Purity Gitonga, protested what she said were malpractices that denied her victory.

The repeated exercise was put off after Jane Kagiri, who was declared the winner and given the interim certificate, appealed against the repeat order by the UDA Electoral Disputes and Nomination Resolution Committee.

“The (UDA) National Elections Board notifies the public that following application to review the Electoral Disputes and Nomination Resolutions Committee case number 45/2022 decided on April 17 in respect to Laikipia County Woman Rep nominations, the repeat exercise scheduled for Friday, April 22 has been suspended pending the outcome of the aforesaid application,” Anthony Mwaura, the UDA National Election Board chairman said in a public notice.
