Boera, Bett top Nyamira Great Run Series

Nyamira Great Run Series came to a successful end on Sunday with the fifth and final edition culminating in style after producing eight different winners.

 The two-month championship that incorporated road race and cross country was the precursor for the eagerly awaited Nyamira Great Run,  a 21km road race, scheduled for December 13.

 On Sunday, Felix Boera won the men’s senior category. 

 Eight different winners out of possible 10 in both senior men’s and women’s categories were unveiled with only Enock Onchari and Faith Bett winning the series twice.

 Onchari won the opening two series in the men’s category while Richard Atuya won the third series with Stephen Arita emerging champion in the fourth series.

 On Sunday, Boera, 19, who started the series by finishing fourth after outraced his competitors in the event held at Sironga in Nyamira County.

 The Form Four student at St Peter’s Keberesi in Kisii County needed 28:30:00 minutes to complete the job, ahead of Arita, who came close second in a time of 28:40:00. Atuya was third with a time of 29:00:10 minutes.

Hilly Terrain

 “I had prepared well for this event having trained for one week. However, my opponents gave me a stiff competition, but I thank God I won at last,” an excited Boera said.

 In the women’s senior category, Faith Bett, fresh from winning the fourth series last weekend, overcame her challengers to win in 33:34:10.

 “The race was very competitive, but I am glad I made it. The weather was favourable making the race even more interesting. However, the terrain was hilly giving me some challenges,” said Bett.
