78% of Kenyans are aware of the effort put in place to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to the data released by TIFA on Monday, October 7, 2024, 86% of Kenyans from the Mount Kenya region are aware of the ongoing efforts to ouster the DP.

Within the same region known to be Gachagua’s backyard, 5% of Kenyans provided the wrong answer for the high official facing impeachment, whereas 9% of the individuals do not know of the efforts.

In other regions, however, 76% of Kenyans are aware of the efforts to impeach the DP, while 19% are unaware and the other 5% are not certain of the official facing impeachment.

Similarly, TIFA revealed that most Kenyans want Gachagua removed from office.

The data shows that 41% of Kenyans support Gachagua’s ouster whereas 38% oppose it. Most of those opposing the DP’s removal from office hail from the Mt Kenya region.

From the region, 69% of Kenyans oppose the motion, 20% support it whereas 11% are unsure.

Other regions recorded that 47% of Kenyans supported the DP’s ouster, while 28% were against it and 24% of citizens were unsure.

The majority of those who support the DP’s impeachment cite ethnic prejudice and hate speech in favour of his community as reasons they want him removed.

Other respondents said the DP should be removed from office due to poor performance, inadequate leadership, and false promises.
